5 fun facts you might not have known about me

Currently sat here catching up on vlogs with a good old Gin & T and thought I would open up a little more and share 5 fun facts about myself with you.

Growing up, English wasn’t my first language

I was born in good old Doncaster, South Yorkshire until my family decided to move out of the UK. From the age of seven, I grew up in Tenerife, Canary Islands where I attended a Spanish school. Although my first language at home was English, at school it was Spanish. I had the best time growing up on the island and felt so fortunate to be able to learn another language along the way. My family and I decided to say goodbye to the Island when I was 16 years old. As hard as it was at the time, I knew it was the best decision all round.  When I returned to Doncaster, I got into college and I went off to study performing arts.

I auditioned for Shipwrecked

This was many moons ago and I’m sure a lot of you are like, ‘what the heck is Shipwrecked?’ It was a reality TV show back in the day and I was so excited to even get an audition, that I didn’t really mind if I didn’t get onto the show or not (of course it would have been a massive bonus if I did). The audition process was so much fun, it was in a Manchester nightclub that I can’t quite remember the name of but there were so many people there. We were split into rows of three and I had a girl from Liverpool and a bingo caller (he was super funny) in my row. It was 9:00 am and I was pure buzzing! You queue for ages before you are taken into a room and asked a series of questions. To cut a long story short, I made it through the first few rounds but I never got the final call to be on the show. Although I would have loved to go onto the show, the audition process made me so confident and the fact they liked me enough to make it that far meant the world to me. Are you loving the fun facts so far?

Goodbye UK, Hello Australia

That’s right, this girl took herself off at the age of 24 and went travelling to Australia solo. I have written a blog post on this before but if you didn’t already know, I went travelling in Aus for a year and I had a blast. It really made me the person that I am today and it was such a rewarding and incredible experience. I will always speak highly of travelling and I will always recommend that people do it at least once in their life. When I say travelling, I don’t mean in posh hotels or with loads suitcases. I’m talking backpacks and hostels – the real deal!

I was in a Sol Beer commercial

This was one of my highlights when I was living in Sydney. I got offered to be an extra in a Sol Beer commercial and I got paid for it. I mean you wouldn’t say no to that right. Although you weren’t allowed to drink the beer (bummer) all I had to do was run up the steps and have a boogie on a rooftop terrace. Unfortunately, you can’t see me in the commercial but hey it’s taking part that counts right.

Living on the ocean

After I returned from Australia, I realised that my travelling days weren’t quite over. Instead of going to Asia or South America or something similar, I decided to work on board a cruise liner. I got offered a job working on the Independence of the Seas and although I hated my first week, it soon became one of the best experiences of my life. I met some of my best friends and of course, if you didn’t know already that’s where I met my fiancé Gareth.

Hope you enjoyed these 5 fun facts about me today, I might have to make this a regular post.
