5 Ways To Improve Your Photography Skills For Your Blog

I have always been in love with photography and creating content that is going to inspire others and although I’m not a professional, I am learning every day. There are a million blogs out there and sometimes it’s hard to get noticed, however be unique and true to yourself, as these are 2 main things that I swear by. I have been blogging for just over a year now, however it wasn’t until 6 months ago that I realised I had a very strong passion for writing and sharing my content with the world and it’s then I decided to take my site to self-hosted.

I started taking pictures with my iPhone Plus which is an awesome phone and to this day I still take some pictures for my Instagram using my iPhone. For my blog, I tend to stick with my DSLR camera which is an amazing camera but sometimes it can be a nuisance to take everywhere with you as it’s so large. I am on the lookout for a new camera to add to the collection and the Panasonic Mirrorless 12-60mm Lens Camera has really caught my eye, much to my fiancé’s delight as he is a professional photographer and agrees with me that the camera looks like it would be a great addition.

Moving on to my 5 top tips on how to improve your photography skills for your blogs:

Ask for a helper:

I am very fortunate that my partner studied photography and is very supportive of taking my photos for me and even though sometimes we may have a different view on locations or how the image should be shot, we still work really well as a team as we have communication. Communicating with one another is key and this is your number one tip going forward. Ask a friend, your parents, work with a photographer and give them direction in what you are looking for.

Editing Photography:

I mostly use Photoshop and Lightroom on a desktop and I use the mobile versions when I am editing on my phone. There are so many cool apps out there like Snapseed, VSCO, Facetune, however I feel people are unaware that you can use Lightroom and Photoshop on your phone for free, so get downloading. Don’t worry so much about a theme and following other bloggers editing styles, just make sure you are happy with the end result. I love editing and find it so therapeutic and like I said I am not a pro, nowhere near but I am loving learning when it comes to my editing.

Invest in a camera:

You don’t need to invest in a camera when you are first starting out blogging, as you can take your images on your phone. I would advise at some stage to buy a camera as you can really take your editing to the next level and inspire others with the quality of your images. It will be an investment for sure.

Photography Location’s is key:

This is something that I really need to improve on as well, heading out and scouting new locations for shoots. It can become a little repetitive for your followers and yourself in shooting in the same places as your bedroom or garden. Confidence is a big thing as you are going to be in the public eye, however make sure to go at a time where it’s not super busy as you don’t want a million people in your shot.

Strike a pose:

You might feel silly out in the open, posing for the camera but you will get used to it and in time your confidence will grow. Research and take inspiration from magazines, your favourite bloggers and pull some shapes out of the bag. You might feel ridiculous, however that one silly pose that you did might be the winner of your post.

So happy that you enjoyed the blog. It was only recently that I started to use photoshop and Lightroom on my phone if I’ve taken an image for Instagram. VSCO is a good app as well though and I still sometimes use that. Let me know how you get on 😊❤️
