Can you believe I have never been to Whitby before? I know right? It’s one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to and I already can’t wait to go back. Whitby is a seaside town in North Yorkshire and is home to the ruined Gothic Whitby Abbey, which was Bram Stoker’s inspiration for Dracula. We only went for a day of exploring but I know there is still so much to see. This is what we got up to on the day 🙂
Beautiful Beaches
There are many beaches in Whitby and they all look so beautiful. It was an extremely windy day and the tide was in – but we still managed to hop down. I was just so happy to see the ocean with not seeing it since our honeymoon back in November 2019. It was a beautiful experience. I can imagine when it was the heatwave, all the beaches here must have been super popular.
Cheeky Coffee Stop
We stopped for a coffee at Harry’s Bar and it was super cute. If you fancied something stronger, they also have cocktails and food options which I hear are really good. Definitely somewhere I would come back to for a cheeky nightcap if we were staying for longer.
The Perfect Lunch Stop
When you’re at the coast, surely one of the food choices you are going to go for is the classic fish & chips and of course that is exactly what I did. We ventured into Trenchers Restaurant and the food was delish. We were really lucky as we arrived at 12:00pm and we were the first in the queue. Around 5 minutes later, the queue was a mile long so we had arrived at the right time. We were only waiting around 10 minutes and then shortly after we were showed to our table. The food was delicious and the restaurant itself was clean, the staff were super friendly and I already can’t wait go back.
Exploring the Quaint Streets
The streets in Whitby are beautiful and they remind me of the cobbled streets in York. This place is oozing with history and there is still so much for me to learn and see. I love just exploring and getting lost in a town and that’s exactly what we did. There were many stores to venture into with arcades, sweet shops and of course I had to purchase some fudge. (It’s my fave)
That was our day in Whitby but like I said, I can’t wait to go back already as there is so much more to see. Here are a few things that I will be doing when I head back:
Whitby’s 199 Steps
Whitby Abbey
To see more of the beaches
