My Dream Honeymoon In Mauritius

12 months in the making and my husband pulled off the most epic surprise honeymoon that I could have ever wished for. If you have been following my wedding journey this year, you will have known that Gareth wanted to book our honeymoon and kept it a surprise for a whole year without revealing the destination until we got through security and had a cocktail in hand.

Gareth didn’t tell a soul (as far as I’m aware) as he was so scared that someone would slip up and ruin the surprise. For a whole year, I thought that I was headed to a cold destination so I started guessing places such as Canada, Switzerland etc. I was told to pack like I did for Greece as the resort is climate controlled and you can rent clothing to go outside due to the cold weather conditions. This all sounded quite dodgy to me but after watching a Jamie Genevieve vlog on Colorado, it made perfect sense.

The day before we were flying, I did have a gut feeling that it might be a warm place that we were going to but I was a little unsure, so I packed a few jumpers just in case I was wrong. Plus, I witnessed Gareth packing a few jumpers as well, so he really was throwing me off the scent here. Moving on, off we went to Manchester airport, through security and off for a cheeky cocktail for the big reveal. I was so nervous and had no idea what to expect…

We were flying with Emirates and you might be thinking “of course woman you’re going somewhere hot if you’re flying with Emirates” but I did Google where this airline flew to and they have some cold destinations on their site so who knew! Boarding cards and a mojito in hand, it was time for the reveal and before he gave me the boarding passes, he revealed it was in actual fact a hot destination where we would be headed to (what a cheeky chappy). We first headed to Dubai for our connecting flight to OMG – MAURITIUS! I was literally so excited that I couldn’t contain myself. I have always wanted to go to Mauritius and I couldn’t quite believe that I was headed there. Time for a bottle of prosecco!

Landing in Mauritius

We landed in the evening and we were greeted by our private taxi driver with cold bottles in hand – luxury style! We were staying at the Zilwa Attitude hotel resort which was situated at the top of the island. The service when we arrived was so friendly and just what you need after a 13 hour flight. Our room was just out of this world with a Jacuzzi bathtub on the balcony and they even left us a beach bag, a bottle of rum, a notebook and flip flops on the bed along with some macaroons. They know us too well already!

We also headed down to dinner at the buffet restaurant that evening and the food was just delicious. Top tip – we were all inclusive (no tacky bracelets or anything) and this works out so much cheaper in the long run, plus you don’t have to keep track of how much you’re spending. There were also 5 different restaurants on the island – totally spoiled for choice.

The Resort

As soon as we woke up the next day, I rushed outside to have a look at the view and wow it really did take my breath away. With 5 different restaurants to choose from, various swimming pools and a private beach, there really was something for everyone. I have never been that person that will solely stay in the hotel or resort, I love to explore but this was a different type of holiday as it was our honeymoon. I started to feel quite guilty that we hadn’t left the resort to explore the island of Mauritius but we decided that we would be heading back there in a few years time so we would explore then. We witnessed so many weddings here as some people had come out with their families and some couples had just decided to elope. It was so beautiful to watch and I got emotional every single time.

The Food

I’m sure you’re wanting to know about the food right? Well, all I can say is one thing – INCREDIBLE! I honestly couldn’t fault the food. The breakfast was buffet style with everything from pancakes and waffles to cereal and hot food options – it’s safe to stay that I put on a few pounds on this holiday haha! The lunches were just as good with a BBQ option on the island of Grand Zil, the option of a buffet style lunch at the beach restaurant or a selection of toasties and hamburgers, yummy.

Dinner on the other hand was my favourite. The buffet restaurant was incredible, but you could also dine at any of the other 4 restaurants for Mauritian, Indian, Chinese and A La Carte cuisine. You can see now how I put on a few pounds hehe! When we visited the A La Carte restaurant which was situated at the beach restaurant, the resort placed our table literally on the beach for our honeymoon – emotional moment right there! Someone pass me a Piña Colada.

Activities

Like I said earlier, all inclusive is the way to go with all the activities included and there is such a variety that you won’t get bored. From paddle boarding to kayaking and water aerobics. There are also paid tours that you can do like the catamaran tour which is a huge must. Our hosts were just incredible and we snorkelled in the beautiful ocean as well as drinking lots of rum and enjoying a BBQ on board. There is also a Spa where Gareth booked us a couples massage and let’s face it, after 13 hours of travelling this is a huge plus to any holiday.

Mauritius

All in all, my honeymoon was amazing and Gareth really pulled it out of the bag. I’m so lucky that I got to experience this beautiful island and I can’t wait to head back there in a few years time. If you’re looking for a beautiful resort then I can highly recommend the Zilwa Attitude hotel.

This is going to sound so weird but me and my fiancé literally just booked our honeymoon to Mauritius today and we’re also staying in the Zilwa Atitude resort all inclusive! 😅 Your post has made me even more excited for our honeymoon next year now! The pictures and food look incredible! 😍😍 How amazing that it was all a complete surprise though, that must’ve been so stressful for him to pull off haha.

It’s so beautiful and don’t get me started on the food, the only advice is take some stretch pants haha! The cocktails are amazing as well and I would highly recommend the Catamaran tour. I wish I could do it all over again and a huge congratulations for your wedding this year. Yes, he was very stressed but pulled off the best honeymoon ever! 🙂
