Turning 40: Personal Reflections on Beauty and Confidence

I recently turned 40 — wow, I still can’t quite believe I’m saying that. I remember turning 30 and absolutely hating it at the time; my 20s were such a big part of who I was. But looking back, I loved my 30s just as much, if not more. So this time, I’m making a conscious choice not to dread a new decade but to embrace it. I want to love my first year in my 40s, and while there are a few things I’d like to change to boost my confidence, it’s not because I’m 40 — it’s simply because I want to feel like the best version of myself.

Naturally, the first place I tend to look when thinking about confidence is the mirror, and for me, a little boost came from booking an appointment at Serenity Aesthetics. Located on Great George Street, right in the heart of Leeds, it’s perfectly situated if you’re based in the city centre or nearby.

I first visited for a consultation at the end of last year, and I was genuinely impressed by how thorough it was. The facial assessment is incredible—they take the time to carefully evaluate your facial structure, skin, and long-term goals before recommending any treatments. There’s absolutely no pressure to book immediately. You can take your time to think it over, and the team is always on hand to answer any questions you might have. The level of information and guidance I received during that consultation was exceptional—I genuinely learned so much about my skin and the best ways to care for it.

You receive a full treatment plan with ongoing support before, during, and after your treatments. I never felt rushed during the consultation; every question was answered, and I was completely put at ease. They provide the best personalised advice, tailored specifically to you, and no treatment is ever pushed or rushed.

Many of my friends have also visited Serenity Aesthetics and had amazing experiences, so choosing where to go felt like an easy decision. My consultation felt more like chatting with a friend than attending a formal appointment—I felt listened to, comfortable, and entirely at ease. I honestly can’t recommend them enough. I’m really looking forward to continuing my journey with Serenity Aesthetics. While I can’t discuss the specific treatment due to UK advertising regulations, I’m genuinely excited to see the results and how it makes me feel.Watch this space!

Another huge focus for me is fitness. Last year, I’ll happily admit I was very committed to paying my gym membership every month — actually going was another story. That’s something I really want to change. I truly believe your body is a temple, and I’m not striving for perfection, or chasing a particular dress size. I simply want to feel strong, healthy, and like the best version of myself.

I’m also starting my vitamin journey and being much more intentional about taking my supplements consistently. It’s a small habit, but one that makes a real difference over time. Looking after my body from the inside out feels like an important part of feeling my best, and it’s another way I’m choosing to prioritise my health, energy, and overall wellbeing.

Skincare has become a major focus for me. When I turned 30, I really started taking it seriously—making sure to wear SPF every day, investing in high-quality products, and truly caring for my skin. I’ve also been improving my diet, adding more oily fish like salmon, as well as plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit, to nourish my skin from the inside out.

I’m proud of how far I’ve come and grateful for everything my body and mind have carried me through so far. Growth looks different at every stage of life, and that’s something I’m learning to truly embrace. I’m so excited for the coming months and can’t wait to put many of these changes into action, nurturing my confidence, wellbeing, and the best version of myself. If you’re turning 40—or any milestone age—why not take a moment to reflect on your own journey, celebrate your wins, and think about the small steps that can make you feel confident and empowered too?
