Whenever someone asks me what my niche is, I just stare blankly as I have no idea what to say. To be completely honest, when I first created Doorways & Dresses, it was a travel & fashion blog, up until last year that is. It soon changed to what I can only describe as Lifestyle. You see the thing is, I love writing about fashion, travel, skincare tips, beauty, reflections, offering advice etc and I know I would be so bored if I had to stick to just one category. It’s really not me! Plus it would have limited my opportunities last year.
The real question is – is it important that I have a niche? In my experience, you grow faster on social platforms if you did stick to just one topic, however, that doesn’t mean you won’t grow if you wanted to write about a number of topics. You have to ask yourself want you to achieve within the blogging world? Is it just for the number of followers you have or are you really wanting to make a difference. For me, I love sharing my love for photography, with style & adventure still being the main focus. I see so many Instagrammers saying to people, it’s so important that you have a niche and stick to it (and so on and so on), but I disagree.
If you are wanting to start out in this industry and you’re unsure of what you want to talk about or what you would like to share, then my only advice would be this – If you are looking for a niche to stick to, let it choose you. Once you start, you will soon figure out who you want to be and where you want to go with your blog, YouTube channel, social media platforms and all that jazz. The most important thing is to just be the best version of yourself and let that shine through.
I’ll be the first to admit, when the world does start to open back up, my love for adventure and fashion will take the front seat again, although I’ll definitely still be sharing my skincare secrets and my favourite drink tipples. Because if you know me by now, you will know that most of the time I can be found with a cheeky drink in hand 🙂
Absolutely love this Victoria, I don’t think it’s important to have a niche, it’s about what you enjoy writing or creating content about at the end of the day. Maybe some will become more successful focusing on one niche, but I know that is something I could ever do, I like to have my fingers in all sorts of pies! x

Hi Lucy, thanks so much for your comment. I couldn’t agree with you more. I am a Travel & Fashion blogger but with what’s happened this past year it’s been amazing to delve into other topics and hopefully my audience has been enjoying them. I would rather grow slowly and have an engaged audience for sure 🙂 Love your content btw
Love this Vic ♥️ being authentically yourself is the best niche 100%. Always love your content gal xxx
