We recently got back from the most magical few days in Italy, where we surprised my lovely mother-in-law for her 70th birthday — and honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Tuscany completely stole my heart, and I came home feeling so inspired (and slightly obsessed with Italian fashion, of course!).
Day 1: Manchester → Pisa → Lucca
We started our trip with a night at the Radisson Blu Manchester Airport, which, if you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know is my absolute favourite pre-flight hotel. It’s literally connected to the terminal, the rooms are beautiful, and it just takes all the stress out of an early flight.
The next morning, we flew into Pisa — it was actually cheaper than flying to Florence, and it turned out to be a great decision. As soon as we landed, we jumped in a taxi straight to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa, because how could we not? It’s one of those places that feels surreal to see in real life.
We grabbed a bite to eat nearby before hopping on a train to Lucca — which, by the way, cost less than £3! I couldn’t believe how affordable and easy the Italian train system is. From Lucca, we jumped into a taxi and made our way to our villa, and wow… it was breathtaking. I’ll pop a link here in case you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Tuscany, because this one was truly special.

Day 2: Exploring Lucca
Our first full day was spent exploring the beautiful, cobbled streets of Lucca. It’s such a charming little city — relaxed, friendly, and full of character. We had lunch at Osteria San Bartholomeo, which was incredible. Think authentic pasta, local wine, and that unhurried Italian atmosphere that makes you want to move there instantly.

Day 3: Villa Day & Braai with a View
After a busy few days, we decided to spend the day at the villa, soaking up the Tuscan sunshine. We had a South African braai, laughed, relaxed, and just took in those stunning vineyard views. Honestly, it was one of those slow, perfect days where you can feel yourself properly unwind.

Day 4: Siena & Florence Adventures
Next up, we hit the road to Siena, which is such a stunning medieval city. We grabbed a quick snack at Ristorante Pizzeria Costa Siena, and later had lunch at Quel Che Antico Bistrot. The food was delicious, though we did have to wait quite a while — and a few of us got our meals before the others (my absolute pet peeve!).
After Siena, we drove on to Florence, and this is where I had my true gelato moment. You know when it’s so good it almost ruins all other ice cream for you? That. The city itself was gorgeous — full of life, colour, and style. The people in Florence are so effortlessly fashionable, it made me want to seriously up my game!

Day 5: Vineyard Perfection
We ended the trip on the highest of notes with a visit to Fattoria Colle Verde, a dreamy vineyard that felt straight out of a film. We had a tour of the grounds, tasted some beautiful wines, enjoyed local snacks, and tried the best olive oil I’ve ever had in my life. It was the perfect way to end such a special week.

This trip reminded me why I love travelling so much — the mix of new places, incredible food, and those little moments you never forget. Tuscany truly has my heart, and I can’t wait to go back, especially to Florence, which I’d love to explore properly next time.
Also… Italians just get fashion. Their effortless style totally inspired me to elevate mine. Maybe that’ll be my next mission — more espresso, more tailoring, more Italian energy.
