Quit Comparing – It’s Really Not Worth It

I always feel that I give great advice, however, I don’t always take my own advice and with today’s blog post I wanted to touch on why comparing yourself to others is really not worth it. Comparison is really the devil and in the long run causes more bad than good. We’ve all been there, where we compare our life to someone else’s, whether it be their success at work, getting married/having a baby at a certain age or fitting into a certain jean size. Or when we all watched Emily in Paris post a few images of her life on Instagram and then shoot to over 20K followers – like, HOW! At least that was fiction.

Here’s the magic though, while you spend your time comparing yourself to others, you are wasting time that you could have been using to work towards your own goals. I will admit that I have compared myself to others on social media hundreds of times, to the point that I nearly gave it all up as I felt that nobody was really enjoying my content or wanted to listen to me. The truth is, even though my followers aren’t growing as fast as others, my audience are engaged with my content and you know what, I am loving what I do and what I create. I have always been obsessed with photography, fashion and beauty. We get told everyday to focus on a niche if you are wanting to grow on social media but I love everything and don’t want to focus on just one aspect of my life. From fashion tips, to where is the next best place to travel to my everyday skincare routine, I love all these things and would rather take my time in building a loyal audience than sticking to one niche and growing quickly.

I think what I have learned the most is that everyone has their own goals in life and everyone is on their own journey. Since I changed my mindset, I have looked at everything differently. I have started to feel super inspired on social media instead of comparing myself. I have grown a community where everyone I follow and all my followers really do truly support my journey and I support theirs.

It’s time to believe in yourself and stop comparing yourself to others. Go get those goals and make your dreams happen, after all we’re only here once.
