*PR Invite – we were invited to stay however, there was no obligation for me to write this blog post. – If you’re looking for a luxury dog-friendly hotel in Yorkshire, I think I may have just found somewhere you need to add to your list. We recently spent the most incredible night at Saltmoore, a beautiful coastal retreat in Sandsend, just outside Whitby, and honestly, we had the absolute best time.
The best part? We could take Beau with us.
I’m always on the lookout for gorgeous places where we can take him, because there’s nothing better than being able to enjoy a proper staycation without having to leave your four-legged family member behind. Saltmoore absolutely nailed the balance of feeling luxurious while still being genuinely dog friendly. And let me tell you… Beau had a better welcome than we did!

A luxury dog-friendly hotel in Sandsend
Saltmoore is situated in Sandsend on the North Yorkshire coast, just a short distance from Whitby and around a 5-minute walk to the beach.
The location is honestly one of the things that makes this place so special. You get that feeling of being completely away from everything, surrounded by beautiful grounds and countryside, while still being close enough to the coast to wander down to the beach.
And talking of the grounds…
I knew they were going to be nice, but I wasn’t expecting them to be THAT amazing.

There is so much space to wander around, and it really feels like you’ve escaped somewhere special. It was particularly lovely having Beau with us because there was plenty for him to explore too.
The room… and THAT bathroom! Now let’s talk about the room because… WOW. The room was gorgeous, but it was the bathroom that really stole the show for me. I’m not even exaggerating when I say I could quite happily have that bathroom in my own house.
It was the perfect combination of luxurious and calming, and after spending the day exploring, it was lovely to come back to somewhere that felt so beautiful and relaxing.
And of course, Beau had his own little welcome waiting for him. Saltmoore had left bowls, a dog bed and a blanket ready for him, which I thought was such a lovely touch. It’s those little details that make you feel like your dog is genuinely welcome rather than simply being allowed to stay.

Aperitivo Hour – and yes, Beau was invited!
One of the things I was really excited about was Aperitivo Hour. We headed down for a few drinks and, much to Beau’s delight, he was allowed to join us.
This is exactly the sort of thing I love about a dog-friendly hotel. You don’t have to choose between enjoying the experience and leaving your dog alone in the room (which I never would!)
We settled in, had a few drinks and enjoyed the surroundings. And then came dinner…

Dinner at Saltmoore
I’ll be honest — I wasn’t expecting the food to be that good. But it was UNREAL.
Sometimes at hotels, the setting is amazing but the food can be a bit of an afterthought. That definitely wasn’t the case here. We had such a lovely dinner, and it ended up being one of the highlights of the stay.
There was just enough time after dinner to realise that the sun was starting to set, so we did what anyone would do… We legged it outside to catch the sunset.
And I’m so glad we did because it was absolutely beautiful.
There’s something about watching the sun go down on the Yorkshire coast that makes you stop and appreciate where you are.

Breakfast with French toast
The following morning, we headed down for breakfast — and breakfast at Saltmoore is exactly what I want from a hotel. There was a continental breakfast selection, but you could also order from the menu. And obviously, we both went for the French toast and they even brought a sausage for Beau.
It was the perfect slow start to the morning before we headed out to explore.

A morning at the beach
After breakfast, we headed down to the beach. One of the biggest advantages of staying at Saltmoore is that the beach is nearby, so you can easily leave the car behind and walk down to the coast. And obviously, Beau was super excited!
There is something so lovely about being able to wake up, have breakfast and then be walking along the beach a short time later. It’s exactly what I want from a Yorkshire coast staycation.

Our stay at Saltmoore genuinely couldn’t have been better. From the beautiful room and incredible grounds to the food, the location and, most importantly, the fact that Beau could come with us, it ticked so many boxes.
I think what surprised me most was how luxurious the whole experience felt while still being so relaxed and welcoming for dogs. It’s the kind of place where you can properly switch off, enjoy some amazing food and drinks, explore the coast and spend quality time together — without having to leave your dog behind. And we’ve definitely not finished exploring yet.
Next time, we’re going to have to try the spa!
Saltmoore has The Sanctuary, its dedicated spa and wellness space, and after seeing everything else the hotel has to offer, I’m already thinking about booking another stay so we can experience that too.

So, if you’re searching for a dog-friendly hotel on the Yorkshire coast, a luxury stay near Whitby, or simply somewhere beautiful for a Yorkshire staycation, I’d definitely put Saltmoore on your list.
And if Beau had his way, we’d already be booked to go back.
