A Cosy Dog-Friendly Staycation in North Yorkshire

Travelling with our three-year-old Frenchie, Beau, is always an adventure, and finding the perfect dog-friendly staycation can make all the difference. On our latest trip, we stayed at The Old Potting Shed in Egton Bridge through Paws & Stay, and it was nothing short of magical.

Before checking in, we made a pit stop at Sandsend Beach. It’s a stunning location, and while dogs are welcome, there are some restrictions on certain parts of the beach depending on the time of year. Nevertheless, Beau had a fantastic time sniffing around and stretching his little legs before we continued our journey to Egton Bridge.

Upon arrival, I was absolutely blown away by The Old Potting Shed. It was huge, charming, and full of character. The space felt both cosy and luxurious, making it the perfect retreat for a peaceful getaway. After unpacking and settling in, we headed out for dinner at The Horseshoe which was just a short walk away. Walking into The Horseshoe felt like stepping into medieval times. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with rustic interiors and hearty food that made for an unforgettable dining experience (top tip! book ahead as we were lucky to get a table). After a delicious meal, we headed back to our home for the weekend, eager to unwind.

Back at The Old Potting Shed, I couldn’t resist hopping into the stunning freestanding bath—how could I not? The relaxation was complete when we lit the fire, instantly making me wish for a log burner when we eventually buy a house. There’s just something about the crackling sound and warm glow that makes everything feel extra special.

The next day was all about enjoying the beautiful surroundings. We took Beau on a long walk, soaking in the tranquility of the countryside. The crisp air, scenic views, and the sheer peace of the area made it a truly refreshing escape.

As the rain set in later that evening, we embraced the cosy vibes with a movie night. The house reminded me of The Holiday, with the snug interiors, the sound of rain outside, and the perfect company. It was the ideal way to wind down after a day of exploring.

Our stay at The Old Potting Shed was nothing short of dreamy. It was the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, making it a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a dog-friendly retreat. Whether it’s long countryside walks, cosy nights by the fire, or simply unwinding in a beautiful setting, this place had it all. We can’t wait to return!
