I visited Cambridge with friends a few years back, and we had an amazing time exploring rooftop bars and enjoying punting, which is definitely a must-do! Now, I’m excited to return with my Mum and Sister since they’ve never had the chance to experience the city before.
We had a wonderful time at the Clayton Cambridge Hotel, which was perfectly situated just a quick 3-minute stroll from the train station. The hotel itself was beautiful and had some charming little quirks, plus it was only about a 20-minute walk to the city centre.
I’m a big fan of coffee shops, and I’ve discovered some fantastic spots that I can’t wait to revisit!
- Bould Brothers Coffee
- Stir Coffee
- Cafe Au Chocolat
- Novi
- Cambridge Botanical Gardens Cafe
We decided against dining at the hotel because it had more of an a la carte vibe, and we weren’t really in the mood for that kind of cuisine. Instead, we ventured out to check out the options below.
- Station Tavern – located right next to the train station and conveniently next to our hotel
- The Anchor
- Graduate Cambridge Hotel – They offer a stunning garden area with a view of the river, and you don’t have to be a guest to enjoy their food and drinks. The food and drinks are fantastic, but just be ready for a bit of a wait
- The Old Bicycle Shop – delicious cocktails
- Aromi – There was a long line of people waiting outside the door, and the pizza looked absolutely amazing
- Limoncello – This fantastic Italian restaurant features a deli as well. Be sure to book ahead since it tends to get quite busy. I even picked up some truffle oil to take home from the deli!
Here are some enjoyable activities you can try while exploring this beautiful city.
- Check out the Cambridge Botanical Gardens, where the entry fee is about £8.00 for adults for the day. It’s easy to lose track of time in this beautiful place, so I suggest bringing a picnic like some other visitors did. It was absolutely charming!
- When you visit, make sure to try punting! There are plenty of tour operators along the river. You can bring your own drinks or even grab a refreshing Pimms from the boat bar that floats right alongside you
- The hop on-hop off bus is a fantastic way to discover a city
- There were plenty of walking tours available
- I haven’t had the chance to visit yet, but The Cambridge Gin Laboratory is definitely on my list for next time!
- Take a stroll around the market
Cambrudge is a city that I would love to visit! It looks very picturesque x
