Whether you’re planning a weekend away with friends, a romantic escape or simply looking to explore more of Yorkshire, Leeds is one of the UK’s most underrated city break destinations. With beautiful Victorian arcades, independent coffee shops, hidden gem spa’s, incredible restaurants and plenty of shopping, it’s a city that has something for everyone. After living in Leeds city centre for years, these are some of my favourite places to eat, drink, relax and explore for your weekend guide to Leeds.

Where to Stay
For a luxury city break, I’d recommend staying in the city centre so everything is within walking distance. Areas around Greek Street, Victoria Gate and Leeds Dock are perfect for exploring. I can highly recommend a stay at The Queens Hotel, Leeds Marriott Hotel and DoubleTree by Hilton Leeds.

Saturday Morning
Breakfast & Coffee
No Leeds weekend starts without coffee.
My favourites include:
- La Bottega Milanese for incredible Italian coffee and brunch.
- Laynes Espresso (a Leeds institution and one of the city’s most-loved coffee shops).
- Raw Coffee Roasters if you love speciality coffee.
- 92 degrees coffee (there’s a few scattered around the city centre)
Explore Leeds
Spend the morning wandering around:
- Victoria Quarter
- County Arcade
- Thornton’s Arcade
- Leeds Corn Exchange
- Leeds Kirkgate Market
- Victoria Gate
The Victorian architecture is one of my favourite things about Leeds, and it’s easy to lose a few hours browsing independent shops and boutiques.

Lunch
By lunchtime, you’ll be spoilt for choice in Leeds. Whether you’re after a relaxed café or a stylish restaurant, these are three of my favourite spots:
- The Whitehall Restaurant & Bar – If you’re looking for a more elevated lunch, this is one of my top recommendations. Just a short walk from Leeds Train Station, it serves modern British dishes in a beautiful, contemporary setting. The seasonal menu, excellent service and stylish interiors make it perfect for a leisurely lunch or special occasion.
- Shokupan – One of my favourite hidden gems in Leeds for lunch. Known for its Japanese-inspired sandos made with fluffy milk bread, alongside delicious drinks and homemade cakes, it’s ideal if you’re looking for something a little different.
- White Cloth Hall – A fantastic option if you’re visiting with friends or can’t decide what you’re in the mood for. This beautifully restored food hall is home to a range of independent food vendors, so there’s something for everyone, whether you’re craving pizza, tacos, burgers or Asian street food.
These are all within easy walking distance of the city centre and make the perfect stop before an afternoon of shopping or a relaxing spa treatment.
Afternoon Pamper Session
One thing that surprises people about Leeds is just how many amazing beauty and wellness spots there are.
Hidden Gem: Lush Spa
If you’re looking for something a little different, book yourself into Lush Spa Leeds.
Hidden beneath the Lush store on Commercial Street, it’s one of Leeds’ best-kept secrets. The spa treatments combine massage, music, aromatherapy and fresh handmade products to create a really unique experience that’s unlike a traditional spa. Advance booking is recommended as appointments fill quickly.
Beauty Treatments
If you’re after a little maintenance during your weekend away, I highly recommend Beauty Assembly in Granary Wharf for treatments such as: nails & brows.
It’s the perfect addition to a girls’ weekend.

Saturday Evening
After a day of exploring, shopping and a little relaxation, it’s time to experience Leeds’ fantastic food scene. Whether you’re looking for a special occasion meal, authentic Italian cuisine or comforting Thai food, these are three restaurants I always recommend:
- Six by Nico Leeds – Perfect for a memorable dining experience, Six by Nico offers a six-course tasting menu that changes every six weeks, making every visit completely unique. It’s ideal if you’re celebrating or simply fancy something a little different.
- La Piola Italian – Leeds – One of my favourite Italian restaurants in the city. Expect authentic Northern Italian dishes, homemade pasta and a cosy atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve been transported to Italy.
- Rosa’s Thai Leeds – If you’re craving vibrant Thai flavours, Rosa’s Thai is always a great choice. The menu is packed with fresh curries, stir-fries and noodle dishes, making it perfect for a relaxed evening meal.
After dinner, why not head for a cocktail at one of Leeds’ many bars before rounding off your weekend in the city?

Sunday Morning
Grab another coffee (because one is never enough) before heading out to explore.
If you didn’t make it yesterday, stop by:
- Laynes Espresso
- Raw Coffee Roasters
- 92 Degrees
- La Bottega Milanese
Things to Do
Leeds offers far more than shopping.
I’d recommend:
- Royal Armouries Museum
- Leeds Art Gallery
- Leeds Dock
- Canal walks
- Roundhay Park
- Temple Newsam
Where to Shop
Leeds is one of the best shopping cities outside London.
Don’t miss:
- Victoria Leeds
- Trinity Leeds
- Victoria Quarter
- Harvey Nichols
- Independent boutiques inside the Corn Exchange
Leeds is one of those cities that often flies under the radar, but it’s packed with fantastic food, brilliant coffee, luxury shopping and unique experiences. Whether you’re planning a relaxing girls’ getaway, a foodie weekend or simply exploring somewhere new, Leeds is definitely a city that’s worth adding to your UK travel list.
