Why I Love The Mountains And My Mountain Wish List

Today’s blog post is a little different as I am entering the AliKats’ Dream of Mountains Challenge. To find out more on this challenge, click the link above. It’s time to update that bucket list, so let’s discuss my mountain wish list.

I have always been obsessed with nature, the ocean and the mountains. I grew up on the island of Tenerife where the famous Pico del Teide (Mount Teide) lives. Mount Teide is an active volcano (although the last eruption was back in 1909) and is the highest point in Spain. Tenerife’s climate is hot all year round, however, when winter started to settle in, you would occasionally see snow on the mountain. My family and I would travel up there nearly ever year and I used to get so excited to see the snow. I have the fondest memories of Pico del Teide – the views were spectacular!

I met my husband working on cruise ships 7 years ago and he is originally from South Africa. I had never been to South Africa before and was so excited as we had planned to go there for a few months after our contracts had finished. Many people advised me to go and visit Table Mountain in Cape Town and after reading up on it, I placed it at the top of my list.

Table Mountain

This stunning flat top mountain has the most idyllic views of the city below. There are two ways to get to the top of the mountain, by cable car or by foot. We decided on the the cable car, however, next time, I would love to hike it. If you are planning a trip to South Africa in the future, then I can highly recommend adding Table Mountain to your list.

Now it’s time for my mountain wish list, here are my top 3:

Morzine

Morzine in France looks so stunning and somewhere that is at the top of my list. It looks like a place that you only see in the movies. I can’t wait to one day visit Morzine and see the beautiful mountains. I have also never skied before and would love to give it a try. Morzine sits in a valley, surrounded by the mountains and is dominated by the three peaks Nantaux, Ressachaux and Nyon.

Mount Everest

Mount Everest is on the Nepal/Tibet border and is the mother of all mountains. It’s extreme and very costly to climb Mount Everest though, so I would definitely go on the shorter route Namache Bazaar, which is a hillside village that apparently has stunning views of Everest. Sign me up!

The mountains in Switzerland

I have never been to Switzerland before and to be honest, I would be more than happy to visit any of the mountains as they all look so idyllic. From St Moritz which is located near Zurich to the famous Matterhorn. I think I actually need to book a 3 month trip just to visit them all. Wouldn’t you agree?

Loved this read! The French alps will be somewhere we will head to in the future, it was a plan we put in place last December while in France for this Christmas…. So glad we didn’t rush and book it in January 👌
