5 Of My Favourite Places To Visit In Australia

If you didn’t know already, I spent a year travelling around Australia 6 years ago now. It was the dream destination at that stage of my life and I had the best time ever. If you have wanted to visit Australia on holiday, backpack around or even move there, I can highly recommend it.

I visited so many places in Australia and enjoyed every single city and town that I went to. I felt very fortunate that I had the opportunity to take a year out and experience a once in a lifetime adventure, so I thought I would share with you all 5 of my favourite Australian cities whilst I was living there.

Sydney

Sydney, was my first port of call when I touched down in Australia and it’s safe to say that I was obsessed from the start. You could say this was the city that I truly found myself and grew as a person. There is nothing that you won’t love, from Bondi Beach to the hustle and bustle of city life – Sydney was perfection to me. I think it’s a no-brainer that Sydney was definitely going to make it onto the list, as I think it would for everyone. I recently headed back to Sydney this time last year and although a few things have changed, I still have very fond memories of this city. Make sure you head to the Golden Sheaf bar, situated in Double Bay and the Sky Bar above the casino (this blew me away)

Brisbane

I honestly feel that I could emigrate to this city. It’s very different to Sydney as people are a lot more friendly and it’s more of a chilled out city. If you do visit Brisbane, the huge bonus is the fact that you’re next to everything. You have Byron Bay and the Gold Coast all on your doorstep (Unlike Sydney, where you have to travel some distance to reach your next destination), which is perfect if you want to see a little more than just a city. I loved the fact that you can drive just over an hour and you’ll be in the Gold Coast area.

Noosa

I was so thankful to visit this place once again when we visited Australia last year. It’s the most chilled out town and is truly beautiful. The walks there are amazing and I highly recommend it. They have lots of hostels and accommodation options in general in this cute little town. Gareth and I went paddle boarding in the lake there and it was one of the funniest experiences ever, I loved it and I’m definitely going to start paddle boarding more often. If you are visiting Brisbane, Noosa is not a far drive away so make sure you add this place to your list.

Lightning Ridge

I feel anyone who visits or travels Australia needs to go into the outback at least once. I lived and worked in Lightning Ridge for just over 6 weeks and had the best time ever. I met so many friends that I’m still in touch with today and experienced a completely different way of life. It’s the town of the opal and I was delighted to go and visit the mines where you get to see the opals first hand. With just one restaurant, two bars and a cafe, it’s definitely one to remember for me.

Airlie Beach

How can you not visit this place! It’s so incredibly beautiful and a must see, along with the Whitsunday Islands. I was a bit unlucky with the weather when I was there but I could still appreciate the beauty of the islands. It’s a popular choice for travelers and holiday-makers and I highly recommend that you do an island boat tour whilst you’re there.

These are my top 5 places that I would visit again in a heartbeat but there are so many other places that you need to check out and I’ve listed a few below:

  • Goldcoast
  • Fraser Island
  • Perth
  • Sharks Bay
  • Nambung National Park
  • Karijini National Park (this blew my mind)
  • Cairns
  • Darwin
  • Byron Bay
  • Melbourne

I can’t believe I’ve only been to one place on your list- although I have only spent two weeks in Australia. I’d love to return one day to do so much more. We visited Melbourne and drove out down the Great Ocean Road, all the way up to Mount Gambier. We then flew over to Cairns and spent a few days there before finishing in Sydney and doing a little trip out to the Blue Mountains. An amazing country!

Wow you did so much in 2 weeks, that’s amazing. I was over there for a year and still didn’t get to see everything. The Great Ocean Road is incredible. Sydney will always have a piece of my heart. If you go back I would 100% check out Brisbane, you’re so close to Surfers Paradise, Byron Bay and Noosa. πŸ™‚
