Are you in your 20s and feeling a little lost? Do you think you should have a plan mapped out for the future? Are you unsure of where to go from here? Don’t worry, you have dropped on the right blog post! I have been there, experienced all of those feelings and I am here to tell you that it’s ok not to have everything figured out in life. Not only in your 20s but at any stage. Today I thought I would go on a journey and do some reflecting on my 20s.
We can’t predict the future and it’s perfectly normal to have goals in life, but remember to LIVE in the present. I remember turning 20, I had already qualified at college and not having a clue where I wanted to be, who I was as a person or what I was going to do with my life. I then spent the next 5 years or so trying to figure that out, but wasn’t really getting anywhere.
From failed relationships to a job that I wasn’t enjoying and living in a small town without a huge amount of prospects, I felt extremely trapped. Something needed to change! I started looking around and decided to take a huge leap of faith and I applied for a working holiday visa for Australia, booked my flights and said goodbye to the UK. Honestly, it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made.
I travelled on my own and formed some incredible friendships and the confidence I gained was incredible. Don’t get me wrong, I was terrified at the beginning but that soon changed to excitement. After my year long trip was over, I headed back to the UK feeling like a different person, however, I still wasn’t sure what was next for me.
I had faith that everything would work out, but I ended up going back to the same job that I didn’t enjoy – although I wasn’t there for long. I decided that my travel plans weren’t over just yet and I applied to work on cruise ships at the age of 27. This is when my life truly changed.
I ended up meeting my husband on board the cruise ships and although he was from a different country, we made sure to make it work. It wasn’t easy and we got tested quite a few times early on, but we came out of those situations even stronger.
At the end of the day, there will always be curveballs in life, things might not work out like you thought they would but everything happens for a reason and it just means there is something better for you on the horizon. Nobody knows how long we’re here for, enjoy every single second because you can’t live your life over again.
Do I have everything figured out now? Nope and I am in my 30s. I am just out here enjoying my life and trusting everything will work out just how it should.
Come on over and say hello on Instagram – I would love to have you 🙂
I’m in my late twenties and I still don’t have a clue how my life will pan out! I’ll probably take things more seriously when I 30 now in 14 months time! x
