Alicante in January is a dream. With temperatures hovering around 15-20°C, it’s warm enough to sit outside, sip a coffee, and feel like you’re getting a head start on summer—without the crowds! The beaches are peaceful, the city is relaxed, and there’s a real local feel to everything.
The best thing about visiting Alicante in winter? No rush, no stress. Mornings started slow with café con leche, afternoons were for strolling along the beach promenade, and evenings were spent catching up with friends over great food and wine.
Life here just moves at a different pace—and I’m all for it! I can’t suggest many activities since my trip was all about reconnecting with friends, which was truly wonderful. However, if you’re seeking a winter getaway, Alicante is absolutely beautiful.
I’m excited to share some recommendations that I look forward to exploring.
Visit a Local Vineyard in the Alicante Wine Region
Alicante is famous for its rich red wines and sweet Moscatel. A day trip to a vineyard, like Bodegas Enrique Mendoza, sounds like the perfect way to taste local wines while enjoying stunning countryside views.
Explore Tabarca Island
Just a short boat trip from Alicante, Tabarca Island is Spain’s smallest inhabited island, with crystal-clear waters, fresh seafood restaurants, and beautiful coastal walks. Definitely on my list for a sunny day!
Stroll Through Mercado Central
I love visiting local markets when I travel, and Alicante’s Mercado Central looks like a foodie paradise! Fresh seafood, local cheeses, jamón ibérico, and traditional sweets—yes, please!
Relax at an Arab-Style Hammam
For the ultimate relaxation, I’d love to visit Hammam Bienestar Ancestral—a traditional-style Arab bathhouse with hot pools, massages, and a steam room. Sounds like heaven after a day of exploring!
Hike up to Serra Grossa for Sunset
I’ve already visited Santa Bárbara Castle, but I’ve heard the Serra Grossa viewpoint offers an even better, lesser-known spot for sunset views over Alicante. Definitely bringing my camera for this one!
Cycle Along the Coastal Route to San Juan Beach
Alicante’s coastline is stunning, and I’d love to rent a bike and cycle along the promenade to San Juan Beach—one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Stopping for a coffee (or sangria!) along the way, of course.
I can’t wait to tick these off my Alicante bucket list! Have you tried any of these, or do you have other recommendations? Let me know! ☀️
It sounds like there’s a lot of fun activities to do in Alicante, I hope you had the best time away! x
