Palazzino Di Corina Hotel And Some Local Cuisine In Crete

I know I have been talking an awful lot about my time over in Crete, but I need to tell you about some of the amazing places I ate at and the incredible hotel Palazzino Di Corina that we called home while we were in Rethymno. Sorry that I haven’t included any photos of the food that we ate over there, we decided to kick-back and enjoy our time instead of documenting every second of it πŸ™‚

Gareth and I found the perfect hotel in Rethymno, a quirky Greek-style place that you won’t find every day – Palazzino Di Corina. From start to finish our experience was incredible and I genuinely couldn’t fault them in any way. From the beautiful balcony to the jacuzzi bath and the quaint swimming pool, to the delicious breakfast… I really had everything that I could wish for at the Palazzino Di Corina hotel. If you fly into Heraklion (or Chania) it’s around just over an hour drive to the town of Rethymno. As we booked a package holiday, we had our transfers included. I normally like to book everything separate, but booking a package at that specific time was the cheapest deal for us – and it worked out perfectly!

We literally had everything on our doorstep and we were around a 5-minute walk from the beach, it was perfection. I really can’t thank everyone at the Palazzino Di Corina hotel enough for taking care of us, which brings me to my first port of call for food:

Palazzino Di Corina restaurant:

Our package only included breakfast, so we decided to head to the restaurant for our first evening to try out the food at the hotel.  The options were endless! Gareth decided on a seafood pasta and I had a creamy pasta which was just delicious. I can highly recommend this hotel to stay at or even just to have your dinner at one evening, you will not be disappointed. Sorry (again) that we didn’t take any pictures of the food, we just went straight in. Oh, let me not forget to say thanks for the Raki! Let’s just say it’s an experience – Opa!

Mojo Burgers:

So it’s not typical Greek food, but when you fancy something a little different, Mojo Burgers is the place to go. As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed with open arms and big smiles. I loved this cute little place, right down one of the side streets near our hotel. You wouldn’t even know it was there unless you heard about it before, or you were lucky enough to stumble upon it. I will be heading back there next year to catch up with everyone at the restaurant -we even left a little message on the wall. By the way, if you’re feeling really hungry, order the large burger. It’s massive and will sort you right out (We shared one).

Zefyros:

This is a must when you are on the island, it was actually recommended to me. Situated down by the harbour where you can take in the most breathtaking view, this is where you will find the seafood you have been craving. Please don’t be put off when you walk down the harbour as you will see a lot of waiters trying to get you into their restaurants and offering you deals. It can become a little frustrating, but persevere, because when you approach Zefyros, you’ll find no one trying to get you into the restaurant and it was the busiest, which speaks for itself. We were also warned that prices are quite high down by the harbour but I didn’t really notice this to be honest. I had the salmon pasta and Gareth had the seafood pasta and calamari. Followed by the local spirit Raki of course and it came to around 32 Euro including tip, so not bad at all.

We also had an amazing lunch at our wedding venue, but unfortunately I am keeping that hush hush for now – until next year that is.
