I can still recall the time I was folding hoodies at GAP, looking at the rain outside, and wondering that there had to be something more to life. At 25, newly single, living at home, I felt completely stuck. Having grown up in the Canary Islands, with the sun and the ocean as my backdrop, I’ve always been drawn to the water, so I knew I wanted to venture out and see more of the world. It was time for a change, but I had no idea where or how to start travel the world.
I was determined to take off for a year and go as far as possible, and Australia seemed like the perfect choice. I got a working holiday visa, saved up, quit my job, and headed to Sydney. It was scary but exciting, and I ended up doing all sorts of jobs from fashion stores to bars and even dancing at Hungry Jack’s! (don’t ask!)
I explored the East Coast from Brisbane to Melbourne and the West Coast from Perth to Exmouth – discovering not just Australia, but also myself. Traveling solo, I was unsure about making friends, but the backpacker community proved me wrong. Each of us had a unique story to share, making the experience truly amazing.
I wanted to share that I’ve been hearing a lot of people saying they regret not travelling or feeling too scared to go, but I’m here to say it’s never too late. Pack your bags and start your adventure, whether it’s in Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, or beyond. You won’t regret it, and who knows, maybe Gareth, Beau, and I will travel or move abroad in the future! (very likely)
I would love to travel to some new places one day! x
